What time should the school day begin? What policies should a company enact regarding equity and inclusion? How does a faith community identify its charitable goals?
Practical decisions about collective action can raise underlying, unexpected, and often polarizing differences of values, beliefs, and identities. And if those differences aren’t acknowledged, they can drive dysfunctional patterns of communication, fraying relationships and building bad faith. Agreements about collective action are more likely to last when relationships are strong.
Essential Partners’ approach to dialogue reaffirms that all stakeholders share a common investment in their community, organization, or institution. This two-day workshop will orient participants to dialogue as the vital first step toward a successful collective action process.
- To learn to map the situation and better understand the history, issue, broader context, purpose, politics, and roles;
- To identify members of an effective planning and implementation team;
- To explore how dialogue and dialogic practices can build relationships and construct appropriate next steps and processes.
